Day 12 — Aspiring Game Creator

2D Game Dev: Galaxy Shooter

Galaxy Shooter prototype made with three primitives — THREE!

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is … I’m gonna go with priceless.

As my previous articled showed prototyping with primitives is crazy rewarding especially for an aspiring game creator and more so when it’s one of the first game levels, made with THREE primitives! and it’s fun!!!

That initial lightning bolt concept strikes your brain and you could have a decent rudimentary prototype on the way within a day or days or even a week or more — whatever it takes.

Prototyping with primitives allows the game concept to be given life quickly.

Whether it’s a new feature in an established game, a new weapon, DLC or a complete game the benefits run deep.

As Galaxy Shooter is built cube by cube exploring and experimenting is easy — having version control only adds to the freedom to explore! Even within a game development course prototyping is still important, allowing for better understanding, deeper learning because C# coding & Unity tools fundamentals are the primary focus. Seeing how quickly a fun demo comes together gives confidence which helps ignite inspiration and all that motivates for further experimenting.

As the Galaxy Shooter now transitions from prototype to pretty damn slick AAA looking game, I’m more motivated than ever to continue my journey!
